The project had two aims: (1) to provide a survey of border-related EU projects in the Eastern neighbourhood, in particular in Ukraine in connection with the EU Border Assisstance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine; and (2) analyse the link between various civilian crisis managemant initiatives and EU's statebuilding policy and practice.
Xymena Kurowska is Assistant Professor at the department of International Relations and European Studies, at the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary. She holds a PhD from the European University Institute in Florence, Italy where she defended her thesis: The politics behind a policy: framing European Security and Defence Policy. Within the EFSPS programme, she researched and published on EU border-related projects in Ukraine, in particular the EU Border Assisstance Mission to Ukraine and Moldova. Her research concentrates on interdisciplinary approaches to security studies and European foreign policy, including statebuilding. She is an IR theorist interested in interpretive policy analysis and ethnographic methods as applied in IR and European studies research.
